INFJ and INTJ: Cognitive Function Analysis
Both types lead with Ni, which means both construct internal models of how things will unfold and experience strong convictions about the future. The shared dominance creates unusual mutual understanding but also a specific risk: two Ni-dominants can reinforce each other's tunnel vision rather than challenging it. The critical difference is Ni-Fe versus Ni-Te. The INFJ's Fe reads emotional atmospheres and prioritizes group harmony. The INTJ's Te evaluates logical consistency and prioritizes effective outcomes. The INFJ's tertiary Ti provides analytical backbone, and the INTJ's tertiary Fi provides hidden emotional depth. These tertiary functions are where growth happens: the INFJ helps the INTJ access Fi, while the INTJ helps the INFJ sharpen Ti. Both share inferior Se, meaning neither is naturally attuned to the physical present, sensory details, or spontaneous action.
