ENTJ and ISTJ: Cognitive Function Analysis
Shared Te creates common ground in decision-making: both types evaluate options through logical efficiency and prefer clear, measurable outcomes. However, Te sits in different stack positions: dominant for ENTJ, auxiliary for ISTJ. This means ENTJ is more assertive and commanding in their Te expression, while ISTJ is more methodical and detail-oriented. The perceiving functions create the primary tension: ENTJ's Ni generates strategic visions that may require disrupting established systems. ISTJ's Si catalogs what has worked before and is invested in preserving proven approaches. ENTJ says 'We need a new approach.' ISTJ says 'The current approach works fine.' Neither is wrong; they optimize for different timescales. The inferior functions mirror vulnerability: ENTJ's inferior Fi makes them emotionally opaque, and ISTJ's inferior Ne makes them anxious about untested possibilities. When stressed, ENTJ becomes emotionally explosive and ISTJ becomes catastrophically pessimistic.
