Same three letters, different model structure
The Myers & Briggs Foundation describes I, N and T as preferences for inward attention, patterns and logical decision criteria. J/P describes how someone prefers to approach the outer world. It does not measure neatness, intelligence or the ability to finish a project.
The dominant and auxiliary processes below follow the Foundation type-dynamics model: it lists Ni as dominant for INTJ and Ti for INTP; the balancing and J/P rules yield Te and Ne as their respective auxiliary processes. This is a model interpretation, not an observed neurological difference or an ability ranking. Both people can plan, explore, execute and revise a decision.
| Model layer | INTJ | INTP |
|---|---|---|
| Shared preference letters | I: inward attention; N: patterns; T: logical criteria | The same three preference labels |
| Outer-world preference | J: seek closure and structure outside | P: remain open to incoming information outside |
| Dominant process | Ni: develop an internal interpretation of patterns | Ti: develop an internally consistent explanation |
| Auxiliary process | Te: organize external action using criteria | Ne: explore alternative possibilities |
